| On the Luberon side, there are the sessil oaks hills, bluish in summer, orange in winter. On the Montagne de Lure side, a just as bright landscape, where the rivers and the flocks flow, where we meet the one-day mountain people and those who enjoy contemplating the stars. The quiet Forcalquier country, wild and warm, exudes the harmony of the areas where signs of ancient civilizations may be found, where time seems to have unfolded without any break. |

The architecture of the villages show a particularly active and open
end of the Middle-ages and 16th century. This tradition of openess to
ideas and men today allows the coming of a new population, notably with
artists and craftsmen, who chose to settle in this country, what brings
to it an original culture. Initially built around a fountain on a limestone plateau, this " font calquier " gave it his name. Small village during the Romans time, its situation in the center of farmers plains and breeders plateaus transforms Forcalquier into an important place of exchange in the Middle Ages. The Romans made there pass the Domitian way which connected Italy to Spain and along which one found pre-Romans settlements. |
| In the 10th and 11 centuries, the country reorganized itself around the feudal land-owners families and the brotherhoods of evangelical monks. Capital of a small independent state in the 12th century which will be then integrated into the Provence County, Forcalquier thus lived its finest hours and his demographic peak with four parishes. | ![]() |
